Renewable Energy Forum 2025 Successfully Concludes at CUET

Chattogram, August 16, 2025 – The Renewable Energy Forum 2025 was successfully held on August 15–16 at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and students to accelerate the renewable energy transition in Bangladesh. The two-day forum was jointly organized by Green Lead and CUET’s Institute of Energy Technology (IET).

The inaugural session was attended by Professor Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiya, Vice Chancellor of CUET, as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Jamal Uddin Ahmed, Director of IET, chaired the program.

Distinguished guests included Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam, Additional Secretary and Member, Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council; Nayoka Martinez Backström, First Secretary (Environment & Climate Change) and Deputy Head of Development Cooperation, Embassy of Sweden; Afroza Akter, Assistant Chief Engineer, Chattogram Power Station of BPDB; and Salman Khair, Head of Talent Acquisition & Learning and Development, Reckitt (Bangladesh–Sri Lanka).

The forum featured two panel discussions focusing on academic research and industry demands as well as the advancement of renewable energy in Bangladesh. Key topics included solar, wind, energy storage, smart grids, university–industry collaboration, and the growing demand for a skilled renewable energy workforce. Special emphasis was given to green skills development, youth employment opportunities, and student career pathways in the energy sector.

As part of the program, an Energy Talk Competition was organized where students presented innovative ideas on renewable energy in concise 3–5 minute talks. The winners were recognized with awards and special acknowledgments.

Speaking on the occasion, Md. Fahim Hossain, Founder and Chairperson of Green Lead, said:

“At Green Lead, our mission is to educate and empower the next generation with the mindset and practical skills needed for a sustainable future. In partnership with IET, CUET, this initiative was designed to advance our vision of a ‘Green Future.’ Its purpose is to provide technical knowledge and career-building guidance in renewable energy. I extend my sincere gratitude to IET, CUET, and all participants for supporting this vision. We look forward to organizing similar programs in other divisional cities such as Dhaka and Khulna in the future.”

Dr. Jamal Uddin Ahmed, Director of IET, remarked:

“The need for clean and sustainable energy has become more urgent than ever. Renewable energy is not just the future—it is the present. This forum is a milestone for us and marks our first such initiative. We aim to expand similar programs nationwide to raise awareness among students, support their career development, and accelerate Bangladesh’s renewable energy growth.”

The forum was supported by City Group, with IEEE CUET Student Branch, ASME CUET, and IEEE BUBT Student Chapter as club partners.
